Description

The AVPro Edge AC-MX-44HDBT is a 4x4 matrix switcher with four HDMI inputs and four output blocks, each pairing an HDMI port with an HDBaseT port. The two ports on every output mirror one another, so a local display can connect by HDMI while a remote one receives the same source over category cable.

Any source, whether a Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray player, satellite receiver, game console or PC, can be routed to any connected display. It is the compact sibling of the 8x8 AC-MX-88HDBT, sized for smaller systems.

Long runs are handled by AVPro Edge's Invisible Compression Technology (ICT) on the HDBaseT outputs. ICT passes signals of up to 18 Gbps through a category cable while preserving all flavors of HDR. Color information, deep color up to 12-bit, and it works with every chroma subsampling type and color space.

In AVPro Edge's side-by-side testing against a direct 18 Gbps cable, evaluators could not identify which display was fed by ICT. Add an AC-EX70-444-RNE receiver at each remote display to complete the link.

Displays that cannot take 18 Gbps are covered by HDBaseT Compatibility Mode (HDBT-C), which converts high-bandwidth signals down to 10.2 Gbps with as little impact on the picture as possible. It is managed per output, so only the runs that need it are down-clocked. Built-in HDMI scalers mean a couple of older displays do not force the rest of the system down from 4K.

Day-to-day problems are solved from the matrix. Adjustable audio delay deals with audio arriving before video. EDID management gives you flexibility across a broad mix of sources, displays, and each HDMI output is equalized, plus amplified so long HDMI cables do not degrade the signal. IR routing and RS-232 support let a control system manage the matrix and connected gear.

Typical system layout: connect up to four sources to the HDMI inputs, then use the HDMI output of any block for a display near the rack and the HDBaseT output for a remote display. Each remote display needs a compatible receiver, such as the AC-EX70-444-RNE for matrix-fed runs or the AC-EX70-444-RNE-P, which includes its own 48V power supply for standalone use. Cat 6a is recommended for the longest runs.

Working with other equipment: scaling on the outputs makes the matrix a good hub when a system mixes new and older displays, and HDBT-C lets high-bandwidth content reach displays or third-party HDBaseT extenders that stop at lower bandwidth. Since, settings are made output by output, one display can remain at full bandwidth while another is down-clocked.

Sizing: choose the 4x4 when you have up to four sources and four displays and you want HDBaseT outputs built in, which removes the need for a separate transmitter at the rack for every remote display. For larger systems, the 8x8 AC-MX-88HDBT offers the same architecture with more inputs and outputs.
