Description
The Community ALC-1604AN is a four-channel amplified loudspeaker controller rated at 1,600W per channel with onboard DSP and analog inputs. The analog-input model in Biamp's Community ALC series, for systems that do not require Dante networking and prefer to keep signal distribution conventional.
FIR loudspeaker processing matched to the boxes
The category name matters. An amplified loudspeaker controller is not simply a power amplifier with EQ bolted on; it is an amplifier with processing designed around the loudspeakers it drives. The ALC series applies 1024-tap FIR linear phase DSP loudspeaker processing, along with parametric equalization, multiple crossover types and factory-optimized limiters tuned to specific Community loudspeaker models.
In practice that means a system integrator loads a preset for the boxes actually installed and starts from a known-good, protected configuration rather than dialing in crossover points and limiter thresholds by ear then hoping the drivers survive.
Load flexibility covers low-impedance operation down to 2 ohm, 70V and 100V distributed lines, or mixed configurations across the four channels. Thus a single chassis can drive a main system on low impedance while handling distributed background or overflow zones on constant voltage.
Conversion is 24-bit at 48 kHz with a 2.5 ms fixed latency, which keeps timing predictable when the amplifier is one element in a larger system. A universal 100240V power supply simplifies deployment across regions.
Physically the ALC series packs this into a compact 1RU chassis measuring 1.75" H × 17.4" W × 14.7" D at roughly 17 lbs a striking power-to-rack-space ratio that saves both rack units and the cost of the larger enclosure, circuit with cooling provisions a comparable amplifier would need. System configuration and zone management are handled through drag-and-drop loudspeaker assignment in the manufacturer's managment software.
Load flexibility in a 1RU chassis
The ALC 1604AN is perfect for houses of worship, performing arts venues, stadiums, large corporate spaces and any installation where Community loudspeakers require amplification and processing.
However, if the system needs networked audio, the Community ALC-1604D adds Dante on the same platform; the Bose PowerShareX PSX4804D is the closest four-channel alternative from some other excellent brands.
