Description
The AVPro Edge AC-MXNET-1G-EV2 is the Evolution II encoder in the MXnet 1G AV-over-IP platform, the gateway where a signal enters the system. It takes a connected HDMI source, encodes the audio and video into a multicast stream sending it over category cable or fiber to an MXnet switch or any compatible multicast-capable managed Layer 3 switch. Any AC-MXNET-1G-DV2 decoder on the same network can then pick up the stream.
A new AVPro Edge ASIC brings native support for 4K/60 4:4:4 signals (RGB and YCbCr at 10 and 12-bit) with Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, and high-bitrate multichannel audio including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
Encoding uses an optimized JPEG 2000 codec at roughly 200 Mbps for 1080p, 300 Mbps for 4K/30 and a peak of 850 Mbps for 4K/60. Latency is about 16 ms at 60Hz, and an ultra-low-latency mode brings it down to 2-4 ms. RS-232, IR and USB can ride inside the encoded data packets.
The unit is fan-less with chip-top heatsinking and typically draws 7 watts or less. Cat 6a is strongly recommended for all MXnet deployments, although Cat 5e will carry MXnet 1G signals. Remember that Evolution II encoders and decoders must be used together; they can share a network with first-generation devices but are not interoperable with them. Pair with the AC-MXNET-SW24 or AC-MXNET-SW48 switches for out-of-the-box multicast tuning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the EV2 work with older MXnet decoders?
No. Evolution II encoders and decoders must be used in EV2-to-DV2 pairings. Older devices can share the network but are not interoperable.
