Description
The JBL PRX825W trades the three-way, dedicated-midrange design of JBL's PRX835W for a more traditional two-way approach. This one is built around raw low-end output: two 15" woofers paired with a single high-frequency compression driver, all driven by a 1500-watt Class-D amplifier (750W per channel).
The configuration is aimed squarely at larger rooms and higher-SPL applications, bands, houses of worship, and events needing serious low-frequency punch from a single cabinet without having to install a subwoofer.
Speaking of which peak output of 138 dB and a frequency response extends down to 40 Hz in Boost mode. The dual-15 layout also widens the low-frequency dispersion pattern compared to a single-woofer cabinet. This helps even out bass coverage across a room rather than concentrating it directly in front of the speaker.
As with the rest of JBL's Wi-Fi-enabled PRX800 line, the PRX825W is controlled through the free PRX Connect app (iOS and Android), giving engineers wireless access to output level, an 8-band parametric EQ, and up to 50ms of adjustable delay. All of which is aligned across multiple cabinets all without physically reaching the back panel during a show.
Input options include balanced XLR/¼" combo jacks, unbalanced RCA inputs, and an XLR mix-out for daisy-chaining to additional cabinets in a larger system.
Cabinet, Rigging, and Build
The enclosure is built from 18mm trapezoidal poplar plywood the trapezoidal shape aids array flying and stacking finished in JBL's Obsidian DuraFlex coating with a perforated 16-gauge steel grille.
Eight M10 suspension points, each rated to 1000 lbs, support flown rigging for permanent or touring installs. Plus there is an intelligent variable-speed fan which manages amplifier heat without running loud constantly. At roughly 79 lbs net, it's noticeably heavier than the single-15 PRX800W models, reflecting the second woofer and reinforced cabinet needed to handle it.
