AVPro Edge AC-MX-42
18Gbps 4x2 Auto Switching HDMI Matrix Switcher
-Gregory W.
Description
The AVPro Edge AC-MX-42 is an 18Gbps 4x2 HDMI matrix switcher that routes any of four sources to two independent displays, with auto-switching and AVR bypass built in.
It sits in the sweet spot for boardrooms, training rooms, executive offices and high-end residential systems where a full matrix is overkill but a simple switcher cannot cover the source count or the dual-display requirement.
18Gbps switching with true 4K60 4:4:4
Video handling is uncompromised with HDMI 2.0(a/b) with HDCP 2.3 support, full 18Gbps bandwidth and true 4K60 at 4:4:4 chroma, plus HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The 4:4:4 specification is the one to look for, subsampled alternatives visibly soften text and fine detail, which matters as much for a spreadsheet on a conference room display as it does for graded video content.
Two features distinguish the AC-MX-42 from generic matrices at similar price points. The first is AVR bypass, which addresses a problem that frustrates integrators constantly.
A legacy audio receiver in the chain cannot handle full-bandwidth 4K, so the whole system is throttled to the weakest link. The AC-MX-42 sends uncompressed HDMI straight to the display while feeding downscaled video to the receiver, letting the AVR do its job on audio without capping picture quality.
The second is dual audio de-embedding, two-channel PCM on analog outputs plus up to seven-channel audio over digital Toslink, supporting Dolby Digital and DTS Master Audio. This means that audio can be routed to a separate system without additional extraction hardware.
Auto-switching handles everything so users simply plug in and expect the room to follow.
AVR bypass, audio de-embedding and EDID control
To get the switched signal to a remote display, add the WyreStorm EX-40-H2-ARC HDBaseT extender set; for DisplayPort sources at the table, the Kramer ADC-MDP/HF/UHD active adapter handles the conversion.
